Ancient Rome: Heroes and Villains
What makes a great Roman great? Why do we still, two thousand years later, find certain Roman statesmen, politicians, and military leaders so fascinating? For what virtues were they celebrated, and for what vices were they blamed? In this Academy, you will study the words and deeds of great Roman figures – some of whom did great good for Rome, and others who brought on controversy and even conflict for the regime. Through a careful reading of original texts, you will learn about these great historical figures and, in so doing, consider important questions about human beings in general and ourselves today.
