CSI: The Science of Crime Scene Investigations
Academy in the Liberal Arts and Sciences
This academy will relate real-world applications of analytical chemistry and biological sciences to the investigation of crimes. The underlying chemistry and biochemistry involved in forensic analysis will be addressed. Students will not only be learning the theory behind these techniques, but will be given hands-on experience using instrumentation. Students will also study the technical, theoretical, and legal aspects of criminal investigations.
The institute will culminate with a full mock crime scene investigation that will include blood analysis, finger-printing, DNA analysis, and chemical analysis of textiles and drugs.
